Smithtown Booster Club Supports Athletes Helping Athletes

Athletes Helping Athletes

The opportunity to participate in the Athletes Helping Athletes program is a privilege afforded to our students by the Smithtown Central School District and the Smithtown Booster Club. With every privilege comes an inherent responsibility. Smithtown East High School takes great pride in the development, character, behavior and citizenship of the boys and girls who represent our district. Every student should aspire to continue this tradition of excellence.

Since 1984, Athletes Helping Athletes (AHA) has been training and mobilizing high school student-athletes with its Student-Athlete Leadership Team Program (SALT).  Currently operating in more than 40 school districts in five counties throughout the New York metropolitan area, SALT has trained more than seven thousand high school student-athlete leaders, and reached more than half a million elementary and middle school students.

SALT trains high school student-athletes to conduct workshops for elementary and middle school students on issues ranging from self-esteem and sportsmanship to bullying & teasing and substance abuse. In these workshops, students leaders discuss making proper decisions concerning high school parties and other social settings, and talk about the power and use of language in creating social status.  The discussions are designed to be positive and proactive while raising awareness and providing options that would empower students to make the right decisions.

SALT provides all the tools for student-athlete leaders’, who work in teams, to adopt a class for the academic year. SALT training prepares the student-athlete leaders to engage and manage the classroom, conduct “ice-breaker” exercises and talk about life-skills gained through participation in extracurricular activities.  Further, each student-athlete leader is trained to relate a personal story relevant to a workshop topic that emphasizes life-skills and “real life” choices and decisions. Students are also involved in many community service projects throughout the school year as well.

Welcome To Smithtown Booster Club

Dear Parents and Student Athletes,

On behalf of the Smithtown Booster Club I would like to welcome you back to 2019-2020 school
year. We hope it be an exciting and successful year both academically and athletically.

For those of you who may not be familiar with the Smithtown Booster club, we have been in
existence since 1951. We are a volunteer organization committed to enriching the athletic
programs for our student athletes. The club is dedicated to promoting school spirit and to
supporting the student athletes and coaches from our Varsities to Middle school teams.

Over the years the Booster club has supported our athletic programs with over $500,000 in
donations of equipment .We support our Athletes Helping Athletes program as well as providing
over $30,000 scholarships for our seniors. Please refer to our website for a partial list of our
contributions.

We also provide the CoreCourse GPA. This program provides you with a critical tool to better
prepare the student athlete for college academic eligibility. This is free to all Smithtown parents.
It can also be found on our website under “ Athletics “.

This year, a new exciting venture will be our partnership with PIXALOT. This feature will allow
you to sign up for live streaming for events on our turf fields as well as our main gyms. More
information can be available in the near future on our website.

As always, we would encourage you to become a Booster Club member and welcome parent
participation in the Booster Club. We are dedicated to ALL student athletes.
You can keep up to date with many of our sports teams and follow the action on either our
Facebook page and Instagram.

Good Luck to All Our Student Athletes,
Dave Miller,
